The situation

Venues in Cambodia need a point of sale that keeps working when the connection drops, meets local tax requirements, and talks to the other systems they run day to day.

What I did

Implementation and integration work: connecting the point of sale to property management systems and to Buqq, handling local tax compliance, and shaping the marketing and positioning of the offering itself.

Key decisions and tradeoffs

Four decisions that shaped the offering, the alternative in each case, and what the choice cost.

Decision 01

Offline first operation as a requirement rather than a feature

ALTERNATIVEbuild online first, with offline handling added afterwards if it turned out to be needed.WHY NOTconnectivity in the venues POSFlow serves cannot be assumed, and a point of sale that stops taking orders when the connection drops is not one a venue will trust with its service.COSTmore of the system has to be designed to work, and reconcile correctly, without a live connection from day one, rather than being retrofitted later.
Decision 02

GDT tax compliance

ALTERNATIVEleave tax compliance as something a venue sorts out separately, or bolts on afterwards.WHY NOTcompliant tax handling is a requirement for operating legally in Cambodia, not an optional extra, and getting it wrong is the venue's problem unless it is built in from the start.COSTcompliance work has to be built and kept current as requirements change, which is ongoing overhead rather than a one off feature.
Decision 03

Third party integration architecture

ALTERNATIVEtreat each integration, property management systems, Buqq, as a separate connection built from scratch for each client.WHY NOTvenues run different combinations of systems, and a one off approach does not scale across clients.COSTmore design work up front to build an integration layer that can be reused, rather than the fastest path for any single client.
Decision 04

Local support as a commercial differentiator

ALTERNATIVEsell POSFlow purely on the software and treat support as an afterthought, the way software vendors often do.WHY NOTvenues in this market are used to being left with a support ticket and no answer when something breaks during service. Being reachable and local is worth more to them than an extra feature would be.COSTsupport is my time directly, which does not scale the way a purely software offering would, but it is the reason venues stay.

Current status

Ongoing. POSFlow is live and continuing to work with venues across hospitality and retail.

Stack and timeline

POSFlow is an ongoing engagement rather than a fixed project, covering point of sale implementation, property management system integration, Buqq integration, and GDT e-invoicing compliance.
