How much does an Odoo implementation actually cost?
A single department implementation starts at $4,000 and a full multi module rollout starts from $4,000. The number is driven by how many processes have to change, not by how many users you have.
Data migration and custom modules are the two line items that move a quote most. Both are scoped in the systems review before you commit to anything.
Odoo Community or Odoo Enterprise, which do I need?
Community is enough for most businesses under thirty users that do not need accounting automation, and it costs nothing in licence fees. Enterprise earns its cost when you need the full accounting module, studio customisation or vendor support.
I have implemented both. The decision belongs in the review, once the process list is written down.
Can you implement Odoo without a partner?
Yes, and some businesses should. If your processes are simple, your data is clean and someone internal has the time to own it, a self implementation is a reasonable choice.
It stops being reasonable when the configuration starts encoding decisions nobody has actually made about how the business runs.
Why do Odoo implementations fail?
They fail on process and ownership, not on software. The most common pattern is a partner who configures what was asked for without understanding what the business actually does, and a client with nobody internally accountable for the outcome.
The second most common is migrating bad data faithfully.
How long does data migration take?
Between three days and three weeks, depending entirely on the state of what you have now. Clean exports from one system are days; fifteen years of spreadsheets with inconsistent product names are weeks.
Migration is quoted separately after the review, because guessing at it before seeing the data is how projects overrun.
Is Odoo the wrong choice for some businesses?
Often. If you run one process well in one tool and everything else on email, an ERP adds administration you do not need.
I have told clients not to implement Odoo. It costs me the project and it is the correct answer more often than the market admits.
